My counting got messed up with those two puzzles that I thought I had completed, but I had made a few mistakes in and errors propagated. A glance back through this year, and the tally is George 26, Listener 24 (so at least a tie is guaranteed).
And I'm still kicking myself over missing the quote from 4012.

Hi there George.....I decided to make 2009 my year for attempting the challenge of the Listener.
Despite being a cryptic crossword addict (Telegraph and Times most days), I had never attempted either The Listener or Enigma Variations crosswords.
Looks like both Glow-worm and Adam were easing us in to the new year as I have managed to complete them both with only a few question marks over some of the word play in 4015, and some of the unclued answers in EV 844. Following my early and no doubt brief success I may be tempted to follow your example and keep an online diary of my progress!!

Hi Apache4D - thanks for the comment, and I hope it's the first of many, many more - but the time for discussion of 4015 is not quite here yet. I have not had direct correspondence with the Listener powers-that-be, but I'd like to keep discussion of puzzles without the answers published to a minimum.
I am not a Telegraph subscriber, so I haven't tried the EV. Blogger lets other people join one blog, so if you want to blog your battles with EV, feel free to drop me an email - glheard at gmail.com and we'll work something out!

Fully understand the unspoken rule about not discussing puzzles till their solutions have been published, so many apologies for that! It was not my intention to publish any spoilers for those who are yet to attempt the puzzles mentioned.
Guess the excitement of the new year and my first solve went to my head, i'll look forward to reading your blog on your battle in a few weeks! :)
